Paper So Touchscreen
Tokyo - As smartphones and tablets, the paper can be a touch screen media. Fujitsu developed the latest technology, allowing the user's fingers 'dance' on paper like navigating on Fujitsu's proprietary technology is able to detect an object which touched a finger, then transform any surface, including paper, desk or wall into a touchscreen media.
"This system does not use special hardware. Webcam and only contains the usual projector. Capability 'juggle' is obtained by image processing technology," said Taichi Murase, researchers at the Media Lab Fujitsu Service System.
As seen in the video presentation, it is shown how we can manipulate the data on a sheet of paper, using finger gestures. As in the smartphone or tablet, users can copy images or text, and save it to memory.
Not only on a flat surface, this technology can also be applied on the surface of a curved or uneven. This gives the advantage to be able to manipulate the data from media like books.
Although this technology is still in the demonstration phase, the researchers at Fujitsu plans to develop it for commercial purposes. Expected in fiscal year 2014, these products could be released into the market.
